The names you see here are babies whose mothers we supported during one of the most difficult periods in their lives -- incarceration and pregnancy, birth in custody, and separation from one another. It has been 10 years since we began providing this support -- November 2, 2010, was the date of the first prison birth that was attended by a doula in Minnesota. There have been hundreds of newborns over the past 10 years.
In everything we do, in every hour of support we provide, we strive to help keep infants and children connected to their incarcerated parents while honoring dignity and individual journeys and holding space for hope and healing. We are asking our supporters to help us mark those 10 years by making recurring pledges of $10/month.
For the monthly cost of eating one meal out or a streaming service subscription, you and your friends can provide classes, supervised child visitation, peer counseling, support groups, lactation opportunities, and one-on-one doula support to birth-givers and parents of young children inside Minnesota's jails and prisons. These services impact newborn babies, their parents, the families that care for the infants, and the older siblings. That means thousands of lives and journeys have been changed over the past 10 years in Minnesota! By Pledging 10, you and your friends will also be helping us to share our innovative model of support so that other prisons and jails will be able to provide the same level of support around the U.S. and internationally. Help us bring restoration and dignity to those who are pregnant in prisons and jails -- Pledge 10 and ask your friends to Pledge 10!
